H.J. Weiler is a fiercely focused multitasker, a (formerly) widowed single parent of three sons, and a woman who knows how to juggle life with grit and grace. A blackbelt, avid cyclist, and business owner, she thrives on challenge—whether it’s building a company or chasing sunrises on two wheels. She’s the proud steward of her family’s lakefront cottage, built by her grandfather in the 1960s, and currently lives in rural Ontario, Canada. There, she shares life (and a lot of laughter) with the love of her life, two cats, and Zorro the ever-opinionated Java sparrow.

Even Though is a very moving and inspirational story. It is a riveting and personal account of how the author survived grief in many forms. The grief of lost romance, the grief of her husband’s sudden death, and the grief of dysfunctional family relationships. She describes the many ways in which her close friends, and her faith helped her through. It is also the story of God’s provision for her and her family in multiple ways. At just the right time, He provided for each of her needs through jobs, support groups, martial arts, practical help with the house, and a second chance at love. She speaks of the importance of determination, faith, and also the importance of humility in accepting help when needed. The Scripture verses which head each chapter reveal her faith being integrated into her daily life. This poignant book ends with showing how God brought her through the trials to a place of victory."

This book has been thoughtfully and tastefully written, providing very personal insight to the into the author's life. Even though the author faced seemingly relentless, unimaginable obstacles, she writes from a place of strength. The story flowed nicely and was inspiring to read. The scriptures at the beginning of each chapter showed the author's mindset at that point in her life. We can also see how those same scriptures shaped her inner strength and deepened her faith as she moved forward, growing personally and in her faith journey. Thought provoking and moving - I highly recommend the read!

Even Though is a moving, courageous story of walking through unimaginable loss and still choosing to trust God. When the author’s husband died suddenly, she was left seven months pregnant and raising two young children. She could easily have caved to the fear and pressure—but instead, she leaned into God. Her honesty about grief, fear, and overwhelming responsibility makes this book deeply relatable. I know the shock of having your world turned upside down, but I can’t imagine the devastation of losing a spouse while caring for little ones. What inspires me most is that she didn’t give up. What shines brightest is her steady, growing trust that God would never leave her, even in the darkest moments. I love how each chapter opens with a Scripture, anchoring her journey in God’s promises. Her realization that true validation can’t come from people but only from God is such an important truth. As someone who has also walked the road of single motherhood, I resonated with many of the challenges she faced. She went through something so difficult, but gained a great deal of wisdom in the process. She chose not to live in fear, and to let hardship refine her into someone stronger. That is deeply inspiring. Even in ordinary memories, she draws out themes of redemption and resilience that remind us to look for God’s goodness in every chapter of our lives. This book is not only a testimony of one woman’s resilience, but also a powerful reminder of the healing and hope found in trusting God. It’s raw, authentic, and redemptive. Worth the read!

I appreciate the author's vulnerability!! She shared her life so others may grow and learn to lean on God. I admire her determination to continue on regardless of the obstacles that came her way "....forgetting what lies behind and pressing onto what was ahead." She included many bible verses that we too can remember as we maneuver life's journey. The author’s faith and trust in God provides the encouragement we can embrace during life's rough seasons. Never give up, even in challenging situations, try to find joy and share your gratitude!! God is always listening and holding our hand.
